Company Overview

Fulwood Green Medical Centre (FGMC) is a general practice located in Liverpool, serving a patient list of over 7,000. The practice offers a full range of primary care services to the local community.

The Challenge

Prostate cancer is a serious health concern that affects many men, and its impact can be devastating if not detected and treated early. Despite the easy and quick initial check and diagnosis process, there has never been an evidence-based screening programme, leaving many men at risk of undetected cancer.

There are several reasons why some men may avoid getting their prostates checked, including fear, lack of awareness, cultural barriers, and competing priorities. However, men need to understand that regular prostate examinations are a critical aspect of preventative healthcare and that early detection of prostate cancer can improve outcomes and increase the chances of successful treatment. By addressing these factors and promoting the importance of regular prostate examinations, we can help men take control of their health and reduce the impact of prostate cancer on their lives.

The Solution

PACO is a powerful tool that helps increase the number of men receiving regular prostate screenings. It enables healthcare providers at Fulwood Green Medical Centre to easily identify and invite men who may be at risk of prostate cancer to book appointments at their convenience, overcoming common time barriers. Additionally, doctors can upload video messages to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage early detection and treatment, ultimately improving patient outcomes and saving lives.

To put this into action, FGMC doctors launched a tailored email campaign targeting men aged 40 to 70 with no prior prostate diagnoses. The messaging was light-hearted yet impactful, designed to capture attention and address common concerns around prostate examinations. The campaign highlighted the key barrier of reluctance while stressing the life-saving benefits of early detection despite short-term discomfort. Men were encouraged to book appointments for prostate examinations, urine checks, and blood tests – steps vital for early detection and timely treatment, helping them live healthier lives.

Impact & Benefits

The email campaign at Fulwood Green Medical Centre successfully raised awareness and motivated men to prioritise their prostate health. With 742 emails sent and 454 opened, the campaign resulted in 26 appointments booked, 17 men screened, and 2 suspected cancer referrals, demonstrating its clinical effectiveness.

By addressing stigma and fear through approachable messaging, the campaign improved patient comfort and engagement. This early detection reduced the need for costly treatments, increased access to vital screenings, and supported better health outcomes across the community.
